Insulin and delivery

  • The 2x rule. Delays, breakage, and heat all happen. Carry-on only, never checked.

  • 7 days at one change every 3 days is 3, doubled to 6. Adjust to your real change schedule.

  • What to take and when if you have to switch to injections mid-trip. Get it before you leave.

Monitoring

  • 7 days at one change every 10 days is 1, doubled to 2. Expect one to fail early.

  • Sun, sweat, and pools eat sensor adhesive.

  • For sensor gaps and 'does that number smell right' moments.

Lows and snacks

  • Glucose tabs and gummies travel well. Juice needs to be bought past security.

  • Tell whoever you're traveling with where it lives and how it works.

  • Granola bars, crackers, nuts. Airports at 1 a.m. sell regret.

Documents

  • Include insulin types. Gold if you ever need an emergency refill.

Airport security

  • Metal detectors are fine for all of them. Body scanners and X-ray differ by device: Dexcom clears the G7 for both, while Tandem and Medtronic say keep pumps out and ask for a pat-down. Check your maker's current guidance.

  • Medical supplies are exempt from the liquid limit. Saying so up front beats explaining at the belt.

Storage and cooling

  • Checked holds freeze insulin and lose bags. Split so one lost bag can't take everything.
